This course provides an introduction to the study of language in its relationship to culture and society. We will focus on the role of language and its use in the construction of visions, cultural values, social relations, rules, countries and institutional identities. The course will explore the various ways through which people use language in different cultures and social environments, and encourages students to reflect critically about the relationship between language, social and cultural practice and power.
