Description

This course provides students with advanced knowledge in all language content areas in in order to perfect their language use in grammar, lexis and levels of language skills. It is divided into two parts. The first part will mainly cover the issues grammatical [eg: verb tenses and time aspects - diathesis - modality, in expressions with hypothetical meaning - elaborated and un-elaborated forms - the adverbial element - counting nouns, etc.] and two language skills in focus: listening and speaking [eg conjunctions - assimilation and a postrophization - word and sentence stress - intonation]. part of the second will cover lexical issues [eg: - meaning and definition - pronunciation - spelling - conjunction and compound words - synonymy and hyponymy - understanding the effect of factors such as: - sub-text (eg word connections) - situational context (style) in word choice; and two language skills in focus: reading and writing.

Objectives

The main objectives in this course are: • to guide the future teachers to assess the student's needs, as well as the plan and teach lessons that take into account students' backgrounds, learning preferences and current needs • to help them demonstrate language knowledge and awareness and strategies suitable for teaching • to help them demonstrate knowledge of language skills (writing, reading, listening and speaking) and how they can be gained • to teach them to plan and prepare lessons designed to develop the general language competences of their students • to help them demonstrate an appropriate range of teaching skills at this level and to show professional awareness and responsibility • to teach them to identify some important differences between their own language and one foreign language, and demonstrate in practice the understanding of the importance of some of these differences for the teacher and the student. To provide future English language teachers with current methodologies for the teaching of the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) plus culture; • to equip upcoming English language educators with contemporary techniques for instructing the four fundamental language competencies (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in addition to cultural aspects.
