Description

This course provides students with advanced knowledge in all language content areas in in order to perfect their language use in grammar, lexis and levels of language skills. It is divided into two parts. The first part will mainly cover the issues grammatical [eg: verb tenses and time aspects - diathesis - modality, in expressions with hypothetical meaning - elaborated and un-elaborated forms - the adverbial element - counting nouns, etc.] and two language skills in focus: listening and speaking [eg conjunctions - assimilation and apostrophization - word and sentence stress - intonation]. part of the second will cover lexical issues [eg: - meaning and definition - pronunciation - spelling - conjunction and compound words - synonymy and hyponymy - understanding the effect of factors such as: - sub-text (eg word connections) - situational context (style) in word choice; and two language skills in focus: reading and writing.

Objectives

The main objectives in this course are: • to guide future teachers to assess the student's needs, as well as the plan and teach lessons that take into account students' backgrounds, learning preferences and current needs • to help them demonstrate language knowledge and awareness and strategies suitable for teaching • to help them demonstrate knowledge of language skills and how they can be GAIN • to teach them to plan and prepare lessons designed to develop the general language competences of their students • to help them demonstrate an appropriate range of teaching skills at this level and to show professional awareness and responsibility • to teach them to identify some important differences between their own language and one foreign language.

1.Understand the main terminology used in ELT to talk about language and apply this terminology in lesson plans and teaching. 2.Understand the range of rules and conventions associated with words, sentences, paragraphs and texts 3. Demonstrate basic knowledge of how noun and verb phrases and expressions are formed and used in the English language, 4. Understand basic principles of word formation and lexical meaning, 5. To demonstrate knowledge in the application of sounds in the English language; understand some features of discourse 6. Use a range of reference materials to analyze and describe language for teaching purposes 7. Use strategies, approaches and techniques to develop students' language knowledge, for example inductive and deductive presentations 8 understand basic concepts and the terminology used to describe reading, listening, writing and speaking skills, to further apply this to lesson plans and teaching.
