Description

English as a Foreign Language is an intermediate to upper-intermediate level reading, listening, speaking, and writing course for learners who need to improve their English. It combines active English learning with a variety of lively topics presented in themed modules and aims to develop all language skills. This course includes grammar presentation in context & text-related exercises. Activities encouraging critical thinking, research and mediation as well as study skills sections preparing students to use the language in real-life situations.

Objectives

Throughout this course, the aim is to encourage and assist students in relation to their study interests. It is therefore thought to achieve these objectives; 1) to build vocabulary through reading, listening, and speaking 3) to develop reading skills and give practice in the comprehension of different text 4) to develop grammar knowledge through different exercises 5) to improve speaking skills, confidence, and fluency and to provide learners with opportunities to express themselves while synthesizing, summarizing, analyzing, criticizing, and discussing ideas. 6) to develop writing skills

People In this unit, students will be involved in reading activities about different lively topics such as tribes, teachers, and sports. They will deal with text summarizing and vocabulary exercises as well as multiple choice exercises related to the texts that they will be reading. The Environment In this unit, the students will read a text about ‘Unique underwater creatures’ and engage in exercises related to the text like summarizing the text and multiple choice exercises. They will be involved in vocabulary exercises dealing with many new words. Students will deal with modal verbs and future tense and also, will be engaged in speaking activities related to decision-making and suggestions. Travel and Holidays In this unit, students will discuss about traveling and holidays. Discussion Day 1 - Children’s Use of Technology and Social Media Free discussion. Students will be separated into groups. They will do some research and discuss with each other their opinions, expressing arguments and counterarguments.

Festivals and Celebrations In this unit, students will read a text describing a festival and its celebration. They will be engaged in exercises related to the festivals and celebrations vocabulary and will learn about relative clauses as well as comparatives and superlatives. Crime In this unit, students will get involved in vocabulary and reading exercises relating to crime. They will read a text about forensic photography and will engage in multiple-choice exercises.
