Description

Qur’an and Tajwid are part of the main teachings in Islam. Islam prioritizes the learning of the Arabic language to recite the Qur’an. Tajwid on the other hand, focuses in the learning of the right ways of recitation that follows with practice of the many regulations and rules pertaining to the Qur’an recitation.

Objectives

The course aims to help students understand the importance of the recitation of the Qur’an in the regular form, using the Tajwid rules. Students learn the Tajwid and practice it throughout their recitations. Moreover, they are assisted through their memorization process of the Qur’an parts that are called “surah” or “juz”.

Tajwid rules: Methods of causing sound and articulating mechanism; Recitation: surah Al-i ‘Imran, 1-9; Memorization: surah al-Fatiha Familiarity with the basic concepts of Qur’an and Tajwid. Categorization and distinction of concepts related to Tajwid rules. Introduction to the course and syllabus. Methods of causing sound are introduced briefly. Students are required to practice and produce audible sounds that help in the articulation mechanism of the right pronounciation of the Arabic letters. There are different types of articulations of sounds: Non-voweled letters الحروف الساكنة, the Madd letters حروف المد, vowelled letters الحروف المتحركة, shaddah letters الحروف المشددة, the letters of Qalqalah حروف القلقلة. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 1-9. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Fatiha.

Maddi Tabii is introduced briefly, the seven categories and its practice. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 10-15. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Falaq and an-Nas.

Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 16-22. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Masad and al-Ikhlas.

Tajwid rules: Ruling of Isti’adhah & Basmalah, the rules of surah at-Tawbah; Recitation: surah Al-i ‘Imran, 23-29 ; Memorization: surah al-Nasr and al-Kafirun Surah at-Taubah is given as an example for the practice of the rule of basmala. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 23-29. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Nasr and al-Kafirun.

Tajwid rules: The characteristics of the Letters; Recitation: surah Al-i ‘Imran, 30-37; Memorization: surah al-Kauthar and al-Ma’un Rules of the whisper and the apparent الهمس و الجهر is explained briefly using examples. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 30-37. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Kauthar and al-Ma’un.

Tajwid rules:The strength, in-between, and softness (shiddah, tawassut, rahawa); Recitation: surah Al-i ‘Imran, 38-45; Memorization: surah al-Quraysh and al-Fil Rule of shiddah, tawassut and rahwat الشدة والتوسط والرخاوة is explained briefly, using examples. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 38-45. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Quraysh and al-Fil.

Tajwid rules:The elevated (istila’) and the lowered (istiqaal); Recitation: surah Al-i ‘Imran, 46-52; Memorization: surah al-Humaza and al-‘Asr الاستعلاء و الاستفال Rule of istila’ and istiqal is explained briefly, using examples. Recitation is practiced in surah Al-i Imran, verses 46-52. Memorization is practiced in surah al-Humaza and al-Asr.
