Kjo lëndë prezanton metodat, teoritë dhe konceptet kryesore të përdorura nga psikologët për të zhvilluar një pasqyrë reale në botën e fëmijëve. Duke studiuar psikologjinë e fëmijëve, ne mund të kuptojmë më mirë fëmijët dhe te pajisim ata për tu bërë të mirë-rregulluar, të integrohen me të rriturit të cilët janë të aftë për të jetuar në mënyrë tv pasur dhe të larmishme jetën e tyre. Ne mund të ndihmojmë fëmijët tanë në periudhën e krizave dhe pasurojmë jetën e tyre të përditshme duke bashkëvepruar me ta me mënyrën më të përshtatshme për zhvillimim e nivelit të tyre.

Duke u fokusuar tek fëmijët 0-12 vjec, Psikologji e fëmijës shpjegon zhvillimin njohës dhe gjuhësor, zhvillimin personal, social dhe moral, dallimet individuale dhe në grup; vëzhgon sjelljen behavioriste të mësimit; vëzhgon anën sociale njohëse të të mësuarit, motivimin si dhe strategjitë mësimore.
